No sound when you first arrive

Browsers don't let any website play sound until you've interacted with the page — a click, a tap, or a key press. This is a built-in browser rule (it's what stops ads auto-playing audio), so every site that makes sound has it; it isn't something we can turn off.

Whenever sound is blocked, the control bar above the keys shows an amber "click to enable sound" indicator. It disappears the moment sound is working.

Any click or tap on the page counts — including pressing an on-screen piano key or typing a note on your computer keyboard. You don't have to use the indicator itself; it's just the clearest thing to click.

Two things to know:

• The very first key press can be silent. If the first thing you do on the page is press an on-screen key, that press unlocks sound but the note itself doesn't play — press again and everything sounds from then on. (You'll see the key light up either way: silent key lighting up = sound not unlocked yet.)
• Playing a MIDI keyboard doesn't count. The browser only accepts a click, tap, or computer key press as "interacting with the page" — notes from a connected MIDI device don't qualify. If you plug in a MIDI keyboard and hear nothing, click the amber indicator (or anywhere on the page) once, then play.

Sound stopped working

If sound was working and stops — for example after the tab has been in the background — the amber indicator reappears. Click it (or any key) to bring sound back.

Still silent?

• Check your device isn't muted and the tab isn't muted (right-click the browser tab).
• Check your browser's site settings allow sound for this site.
